Op de Aldour Farm in Pitlochry werd al in de 17e eeuw whisky gestookt. In 1798 kreeg de Aldour Distillery een stookvergunning. Bij een grote uitbreiding in 1825 werd de naam veranderd in Blair Athol. De met klimop begroeide gebouwen die we tegenwoordig zien werden toen gebouwd. In 1933 werd Blair Athol gekocht door Arthur Bell, een kleine lokale blender die daarmee ook zelf kon distilleren. In 1949 restaureerde Bell de distillery, in 1970 kreeg het een bezoekerscentrum: ‘the spiritual home of Bells’. Door overnames kwam Blair Athol in 1987 in eigendom van Diageo. De distillery wordt nog steeds prachtig onderhouden.

Deze Highland malt wordt veel gebruikt in Bell’s blends. Het karakter van Blair Athol is robuust, met kruiden, noten en gedroogd fruit. Deze malt rijpt snel.
