Balmenach

James Macgregor had zich begin 19e eeuw met zijn twee broers gevestigd in Cromdale. Al snel nadat de Exise Act van kracht werd kreeg James Macgregor in 1824 een vergunning om legaal te stoken in Balmenach Distillery.  Balmenach bleef een familiebedrijf van de Macgregors, totdat het in 1897 werd ondergebracht in een Limited Liabilty Company (Ltd.). De Macgregors hielden nog wel de zeggenschap in de nieuwe aandelenstructuur. Ze gebruikten het geld om de distillery te renoveren en er werd een private spoorlijn van de distillery naar Cromdale Station aangelegd. Hier vind je een foto van de Balmenach stoomtrein. Het transport van grondstoffen en whisky van en naar de distillery werd met de komst van de spoorlijn veel eenvoudiger. In 1922 werd Balmenach overgenomen door een consortium van blenders en was de rol van de Macgregors uitgespeeld. Tegenwoordig ademt deze traditionele Speyside distillery nog steeds veel historie.

  • Balmenach Project 2014 cask #426 and #426a is an sherry hogshead, distilled at 10-12-2014 at 63.8% ABV, and has been devided into 80 shares
    status: maturing, expected to be bottled ~ 2024
  • Balmenach 2007 #333 is an bourbon hogshead, distilled at 15-08-2007 with 169 liters at 55.9% ABV, and has been devided into 50 shares
    status: maturing, expected to be bottled ~ 2024
