Annandale Distillery is in 1836 gesticht in Annan, het uiterste zuiden van Schotland. Gelegen aan de westkust vertrokken daar veel Schotse emigranten naar de nieuwe wereld (VS). In 1918 werd de distillery, op dat moment eigendom van Johnie Walker Whisky Co, gesloten. In 2007 kochten prof. David Thomson en Theresa Church de distillery, die vanaf 1924 als boerderij werd gebruikt. Een lange periode van bouw en restauratie volgde, totdat in november 2014 de eerste spirit weer gestookt kon worden.

De distillery manager is Malcolm Rennie, een echte Ileach. Hij heeft vooral bij distilleries op Islay gewerkt: Ardbeg, Bruichladdich, Caol Ila en Kilchoman. Met zijn kennis en ervaring heeft hij veel invloed op de inrichting van de distillery, de gebruikte grondstoffen en de vaten. De distillery heeft drie stills en zes washbacks (oregon pine). De destoner en de mill komen uit de boedel van Caperdonich. Er wordt Concerto barley gebruikt, de peated barley komt uit Inverness en de unpeated barley uit Edinburgh. Annandale doet één mash en één destillatie per dag gedurende zes dagen per week. De unpeated newmake spirit is zacht, fruitig en clean. Op de neus blijft de rokerigheid van de peated spirit op de achtergrond. In de smaak is de rokerigheid prachtig aanwezig, zonder de spirit te overheersen.

In het caskprogramma biedt Annandale particulieren de mogelijkheid een cask te kopen. Annandale maakt zowel peated als unpeated spirit. De peated spirit is geturfd tot 45 PPM, behoorlijk hoog. Door de wijze van distilleren is het resultaat mooi gebalanceerd rokerig, bijvoorbeeld zoals Longrow.

De spirit wordt afgevuld in first fill of refill bourbon barrels. De first fill barrels komen van Buffalo Trace. Ook Kilchoman (Machir Bay botteling) en Arran (single cask Bourbon releases) gebruiken vaten van Buffalo Trace. Kwaliteit staat voorop!
