Bunnahabhain betekent “de mond van de rivier” en is gebouwd in 1881. Het bronwater komt uit de Margadale river, waarnaar de naam verwijst. Het is een van de zeven actieve distilleries op Islay. De standaard whisky van Bunnahabhain heeft een zacht karakter doordat er geen zwaar geturfde gerst gebruikt wordt. Er wordt ook een zwaar geturfde variant gestookt, vaak met de aanduiding Moine, Staoisha of Islay Malt.
