Balblair distillery meldt op hun website dat de huidige kantoren en de stillhouse, mashhouse, kiln en barns in 1895 door Cowan een halve mijl heuvelopwaarts werden gebouwd. Deze verplaatsing bracht de distillery dichterbij de spoorlijn, waarmee kolen en graan werden aangevoerd.

Mr. Alfred Barnard bezocht Balblair tijdens zijn tocht (1889-1891) langs alle whisky distilleries van de UK. Barnard schrijft over Balblair:
“The distillery was founded in the year 1790, and in the early part of the century was very small and old fashioned. About fifteen years since, Messrs. Ross & Son enlarged the works, removing the Maltings, Mashing, and Distilling Buildings higher up the slope of the hill, in order to get the benefit of gravitation in working the Distillery, and the old buildings at the bottom of the hill were then converted into Bonded Warehouses.”

Sinds de overname door Inver House Distillers in 1996 brengt Balblair alleen nog whisky uit op basis van destillatiejaar (vintage). Sinds 2011 is Balblair ook open voor bezoekers.

Bij een onafhankelijke broker kochten wij Balblair cask #380, gedestilleerd op 5 maart 2013. Het is een first fill bourbon barrel (190 liter) afgevuld op 67,5% ABV.
